Carbon Filters for Well and Surface Water

We are pleased to offer a wide range of residential and light commercial filters designed to improve the taste and smell of well and surface water by removing a wide range of organic contaminants. These filters will also remove a wide range of other trace contaminants as well. Great tasting, refreshing, and hydrating water from every faucet!

These filters are recommended for the treatment of well water, rainwater, and surface water (lakes, streams, springs, and rivers) that have been confirmed to be microbiologically safe through lab-grade testing. They are a great solution for general taste and odor problems. A UV sterilizer should be installed after the carbon filter if it is used on a water source with uncertain microbiological quality. We do not recommend activated carbon for the removal of hydrogen sulfide (rotten egg) odor as there are more effective solutions available for this particular problem - see hydrogen sulfide solutions here.

How much water is used in the backwash of the Home plus Clear plus activated carbon filter

The volume of water used in the backwash process is relative to the size of the unit. The default programming for the ClearPlus™ Series Centaur Catalytic Carbon Filters is to backwash every 5 days for 10 minutes, followed by a 3 minute rinse. So the total cycle time is 13 minutes. The backwash flow rate will depend on where you are located (water temperature). In warmer climates, the backwash flow rate will generally need to be a bit higher since the water is less dense, so the volume of water will be a bit higher. Here are the expected total volume of water for the backwash and rinse for each model based on 40F to 70F water temps. CC-5800SXT-8-44 = 45 to 52 gallons CC-5800SXT-9-48 = 58 to 65 gallons CC-5800SXT-10-54 = 78 gallons (this one is the same since the manufacturer doesn't have an alternate drain line flow control for the valve to differentiate these flow rates) CC-5800SXT-12-52 = 104 to 117 gallons CC-5800SXT-13-54 = 117 to 130 gallons CC-5800SXT-14-65 = 130 to 156 gallons
