The Enpress CT-03-CB-AMINE incorporates a proprietary media with an enormous number of catalytically active nitrogen groups for highly efficient reduction of chloramines and general taste and odor improvement. This enhanced catalytic functionality has 5 times more capacity for chloramines reduction than standard carbon blocks. The The CT-03-CB-AMINE offers ease-of-use, extended service life, less frequent cartridge replacement, superior flow capacity, and low pressure loss.

The CT-03-CB-AMINE is ideal for whole house chloramine removal and general taste/odor improvement for homes on city water supplies. It is also popular for light commercial applications. Its large media volume provides far superior flow rate capacity and service life as compared to typical whole house catalytic carbon filters (4.5 x 10 Inch and 4.5 x 20 Inch "Big Blue" style cartridges). The CT-03-CB-AMINE provides nominal 3 micron filtration over a service life of >50,000 gallons (189,000 liters) with greater than 85% chloramine reduction at flow rates up to 7 gpm (26.5 LPM).

Each filter comes with top cap with built-in handle for lightweight and easy removal, a bag for proper sanitary disposal, and a double o-ring bottom seal to prevent filter bypass.

The Enpress CT-03-CB-AMINE cartridge is designed specifically for Enpress ONE Cartridge Tank filter systems with 1.25 inch inlet/outlet. The Enpress ONE Cartridge Tank is marketed under a variety of other brand names and part numbers, including: Watts SCT-125; US Filter Systems 350-ONE-CT-125; Hellenbrand 109710; and Nelsen NFS-HF. This cartridge is compatible with all of these systems that have a 1.25 inch inlet/outlet.

Question:

Can this filter be backwashed, even though it's disposable?

Answer(s):

This filter is not inherently designed to be backwashed, however, if you created an appropriate series of valves such that you could run water through it backwards, it would be possible to perform a rudimentary backwash of the filter. This would take a bit of plumbing creativity on the part of the installer. This said, it is not something that we would generally recommend for a few reasons. These filters are constructed to have the flow only in one direction so there is some risk of structural integrity loss/damage when flowed in reverse especially at high pressure. Further, many/most of the contaminants removed by this filter are adsorbed and would not be removed from the filter in a backwash process. Only sediment particles trapped in the outer layers of the filter could really be cleaned off in a backwash process. If such particles are clogging the filter, instead of backwashing, it would be better to add a dedicated sediment pre-filter in front of this cartridge to better protect it from the sediments.
